Under general direction of the Sheriff or their designee, serves as the department spokesperson; plans, designs, coordinates, implements and monitors communication and media programs for the Sheriff's Office; oversees updates to the department websites and social media accounts; develops internal department communications, performs community outreach; prepares press releases, fact sheets and publications; acts as a liaison between the department, community groups and the media; advises the Sheriff's Command Staff and other management on related public information and community relations activities; and performs related duties as assigned.
The Sheriff Communications Coordinator is responsible for performing professional duties in support of public outreach and information.
The incumbent will oversee and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the communication and media programs for the Sheriff's Office.
Positions at this level work with minimal supervision, and act with considerable independence, receiving only occasional instruction and are expected to possess in depth knowledge of communication and media strategies, including the maintenance of the public and internal departmental websites, social media accounts, and newsletters.

Performs communication activities related to the County and department strategic plans to promote communication initiatives, goals, and priorities of the department.
Assists staff with developing effective communication plans for major projects and initiatives.
Develops, oversees, and expands the department comprehensive social media presence, including developing and coordinating a social media strategy; manages and monitors content and feeds to ensure information is accurate, accessible, timely, professional, appropriate, engaging, and useful to end users.
Prepares press releases, brochures, articles, fact sheets, photographs, videos, web pages, graphics, advertisements, and other materials in accordance with established policies and procedures; researches and writes various publications for distribution to the public, employees, private organizations, and small businesses.
Evaluates and analyzes the public's interest and extent of understanding of departmental programs and services; supports engagement of employees, stakeholders and the public within the development and implementation of the County and department strategic plans.
Oversees departmental public and internal websites, including provision of training and technical assistance to webmasters and guidance to programs on best practices related to form and content.
Speaks at workshops, panel discussions, and other events regarding programs, services, and emerging issues.
Prepares a variety of materials for use during presentations to boards, commissions, committees, conferences, etc.
Develops and incorporates innovative branding and messaging strategies in support of the departmental communication plan.
Assists in coordinating radio and television appearances and preparing required materials and scripts for use.
Assists with the planning, organizing, staffing and logistical details of special/promotional events, community outreach activities, employee activities and other projects or events.
Receives and responds to inquiries from the public on available departmental services; prepares correspondence in reply to inquiries, general complaints, and suggestions relative to the department's various programs and activities; consults with appropriate staff members to secure pertinent facts and information.
Plans and conducts departmental studies and projects; formulates recommendations and prepares professional reports based on evaluated and analyzed data.
Collaborates with the County Public Information Officer at the Emergency Operations Center during disasters.
May direct department volunteers in their support of the Sheriff's Office.
Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of:
Principles, practices, methods and techniques of public information, media relations and community relations programs; principles and techniques of organizing and coordinating local government communications and media relations events or programs; principles and practices of emerging trends of communication technology and branding, including social media platforms; techniques for preparing, producing and disseminating information to the general public, news outlets, social media sites, schools and community; applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regarding publicizing publications for a government entity; office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and other specialized applications related to area of assignment.
Ability to:
Plan, coordinate and implement a variety of media and community events, activities and programs; build and maintain effective relationships with the media, community, stakeholders and representatives of a wide range of public agencies and private organizations; research, analyze, and evaluate information and formulate recommendations; prepare illustrations, charts, graphs, and other visual aids for distribution or presentations; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; speak effectively in public; prepare clear and concise reports, publications, and social media posts; operate standard office equipment and audio/visual equipment; operate a motor vehicle; and utilize various software programs relevant to the position.
Education and
Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business or public administration, journalism, marketing, public relations, political science, or in a related field and two years of experience in public communications, public relations, marketing, program management, social media and branding, website maintenance or related experience that would demonstrate the possession of the above knowledge and abilities; or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge skills and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Essential duties require the following physical skills and work requirements:
Requires the ability to exert a small amount of physical effort in sedentary to light work involving moving from one area of the office to another; some positions require sufficient hand/eye coordination to perform semi-skilled repetitive movements, such as data entry or use of other office equipment or supplies; sufficient strength and coordination for lifting, pushing, pulling, and/or carrying the weight of audio visual equipment and supplies used for presentations.
Disaster Service Workers:
All Sutter County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to perform certain emergency services at the direction of the department and/or County.
License or Certificate:
Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License.
Sutter County offers a generous benefits package to regular full-time and part-time (over 20 hrs/wk) employees.

up to $150,000 for employee and up to $5,000 for dependents; Holidays:

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
